Excerpt from Ground Rules by Renée Swann:

"You're late," is the first thing my sister says to me when she opens the door. Not “hello” or “I was worried,” but always cutting to the chase.
“Yeah, I, um, forgot the cupcakes.” Or rather, I ate the cupcakes and had to stop by the bakery for more. I should’ve learned that lesson by now—always buy double—but I haven’t and most likely never will.
“Well, come in. Rob’s already here.”
“Rob?”
She seizes the cupcake box and leads me up the hallway. “Jack’s friend. Hope you don’t mind; we invited him too.”
“Oh, okay.” I backtrack, tugging the bakery box from her grasp. “This’s a setup, isn’t it?” To Cordelia, the fact I’m twenty-five and unmarried equals her trying to find me a nice man to be with. She never liked Martin, and it’s been exactly seven days since I dropkicked him out of my life.
“Don’t be ridiculous. He’s married. And a Christian.” Slinging an arm over my shoulders as she tows me through the house, she adds, “He is handsome though. Don’t tell Jack I said that.” And as we step out onto the rear veranda, she says, “Look who’s here!”
Jack’s lips quirk into a grin; arms coil around my shoulders. “You ate the cupcakes again, didn’t you?” he whispers in my ear.
My brother-in-law knows me too well.
The honey-eyed man at the end of the table is staring at me. Do I have frosting on my face? After a moment, Jack leads me over to him.
“This is the famous Becky,” he says.
“I’m famous?”
Rob smiles and offers me his hand. “Pleasure to meet you.”
His voice sends tingles to my lady bits. I want to lick that smile and kiss those lips.
He’s married. Hmph. My freaking luck.
“Lovely to meet you, too. I’ve heard nothing about you.” I slide my fingers across his palm and he gives them a quick squeeze.
“He’s a lawyer,” Cordy says, as if that explains it all. “Wine?”
“Sure.” I take the seat adjacent to Rob as she trots into the kitchen. “Lawyer, huh?” My eyes skirt all six-foot one-inch of him, over the crisp white button-down shirt and gray trousers. I’d love to take a peek under the suit.
“Yeah. My brothers and I own Gibbs Legal and Financial Group.”
“Ooh, I bet you’re loaded.”
A snicker. “I guess I am.” He flashes me a boyish smile. “So, since we’re talking paychecks…”
I sigh. “Why would I want money when I can have cheesecake?”
He regards me curiously.
“What?”
“I find you fascinating.”

“Really?”

Title:  Trail of Secrets
Author:  Laura Wolfe
Published:  August 27th, 2015
Publisher:  Fire and Ice YA
Genre:  YA Mystery
Content Warning:  PG-13

Synopsis:  Spending three weeks of her summer at the elite Foxwoode Riding Academy in northern Michigan should have been one of the happiest times of sixteen year-old Brynlei’s life. But from the moment Brynlei arrives at Foxwoode, she can’t shake the feeling she’s being watched. Then she hears the story of a girl who vanished on a trail ride four years earlier. While the other girls laugh over the story of the dead girl who haunts Foxwoode, Brynlei senses that the girl—or her ghost—may be lurking in the shadows.

Brynlei’s quest to reveal the truth interferes with her plan to keep her head down and win Foxwoode’s coveted “Top Rider” award. To make things worse, someone discovers Brynlei’s search for answers and will go to any length to stop her. As Brynlei begins to unravel the facts surrounding the missing girl’s disappearance, she is faced with an impossible choice. Will she protect a valuable secret? Or save a life?

Excerpt from Trails of Secrets by Laura Wolfe:

Jett plodded rhythmically through the pristine landscape. The earthy scent of pine needles, tree moss, and raspberries filled Brynlei’s senses. Wild raspberry bushes sprouted up along the trail, their thorns threatening to impale anyone who reached for the ripe fruit. A small creek with crystal clear water babbled to the right of the trail. She could see straight through the rushing water to the leaves and stones on the bottom.

Anna turned back toward Brynlei. “We’re stopping for minute to let the horses drink from the creek. Pass it on.”

Brynlei passed the same message back to Kaitlyn. She guided Jett over to the creek and let him stretch his head toward the water. Out of the corner of her eye, Brynlei saw something dart behind one of the trees in the distance. She would have dismissed it as a squirrel or a deer, but it was too tall. It almost looked like a person, but then it was gone. The hairs on Brynlei’s neck stood on end. The dark energy prickled her skin. She could feel someone watching her. Jett jerked his head up and perked his ears toward the trees beyond the creek. His nostrils flared and his feet danced. He was on alert and so was Brynlei.

Published:  September 29th, 2015
Publisher:   Vinayaka Publishing
Genre:  Science Fiction Thriller
Content Warning:  Mild violence and language
Recommended Age:  15+

Synopsis:  Mayhem is about to visit Löthia.
Löthia is at peace–after a millennium of genetic tinkering, Löthians’ power over the elements has been obliterated. The Elemental Wars that have plagued their civilization from the beginning of time is now distant history.
But have the Elementals been tamed for good?
Or is this just the quiet before the storm rips Löthia apart once again?

Read FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

Excerpt from Elementals: Season 1 by S.G. Basu:

Nothing during the course of the grouchy summer day indicated that, by the time it was over, seventeen-year-old Anavyx Elon would be accused of the grisliest murder in recent Löthian history.

Dual complete moons blazed across the purple skies of Löthia that evening, and there shouldn’t have been any interruptions to Anavyx’s routine, yet there was.

She heard the faint noise of her bedroom door opening when she was halfway through her shower. Her body, warm from the water cascading down from the canopy over her head, stiffened immediately.

“Moma?” Anavyx called, voice trembling a little as her throat dried up with fear. No one replied.

It couldn’t be Moma.

Alana, her mother, was a top geneticist in the Peaks. Her evening consultation hours ended precisely at 2030 hours, not a moment before or after. There was no reason for her to leave her patients and come into the private section of the house looking for Anavyx.
Maybe it was Dadi.

Anavyx banished that idea with a shake of her head. It was impossible. Her father did not set foot in the house before midnight. Nothing except a calamity would bring him home this early. And even if he came home, he would never venture into her room. So who could it be?
There was no other noise after the door opened. That was the oddest thing—the silence. It made her insides curl up in a tight ball.

Anavyx reached for her robe and having wrapped its flowing expanse around herself, tiptoed forward to investigate. She barely took a step into her room, heart pounding uncontrollably fast and unbearably loud, when she saw him.

Excerpt from The Innocent by Michelle K. Pickett:

I Googled the names of the four brothers. Jord translated to earth, Brann translated to fire, Himmel translated to sky, and Vann translated to water.
That doesn’t sound good. A fire demon? Crap, regular demons are bad enough. Now we have a fire demon? Great. He sounds like a blast at parties.
“And an earth demon. That’s what the goblins meant when they said the tree was a game and I wasn’t supposed to get here. That tree was meant for me. Jord, or whatever his freakin’ name is, tried to bounce that tree on my car. Damn demons. I’m so sick of them.” I dropped my head in my hands and fisted my hands in my hair.
“Milayna? Are you okay?” my mom called from the hall outside my bedroom door.
“Yeah, why?”
“Well, you’re talking to yourself in there. Just wondering.”
I laughed. “I’m fine.”
I wasn’t fine. I’d just learned Ben and I had not one, but five demons after us. And four of them controlled the elements.
Life sucked sometimes… but demons sucked monkey balls all the time.
I grabbed my cell and tapped out a text.
Me: Xavier, have you heard of the Four Brothers?
He didn’t reply. Seconds went by. I didn’t think he was going to answer me. When my phone finally dinged that I had a text message, I jumped.
Xavier: I’m coming over. Be there in ten.
“Where’d you hear about the Four Brothers?” Xavier asked me as soon as I opened the front door.
“Hi to you too.”
“Sorry. Hi. Where did you hear about them?” He ran his hand through his hair.
“My grandmother.” I stepped back and looked up at him. “Why?
What do you know?”
“Just rumors, old legends. They’re supposed to be a group of fallen angels. They each control an element—”
“Fire, sky, earth, and water.”
“Right. Supposedly, they can make the element they control do whatever they want it to.”
“So this Jord guy, he could cause a tree to fall?”
“Geez, Milayna, you know them by name?” He ran a hand across the back of his neck and swore under his breath. “I guess so.”
“The hobgoblins said the tree was for me.”
“Huh?”
“When I was driving home, a tree fell across the road. I had a vision that it would hit the car in front of me. It was actually meant for me according to the hobgoblins. They said it was a game. That I wasn’t supposed to get home. That I was a… a problem to be dealt with.”
“Well, Azazel—”
I waved his words away with a huff of exasperation. “I know, Azazel can’t touch me. But other demons can. Abaddon could. And…”
“And what, Milayna?” he urged when I didn’t continue.
“And Azazel can hurt my family.” I pinched the bridge of my nose against the headache I’d felt building all day. “I think he’s after Benjamin.”
“Benjamin is in a protective state until the year of his eighteenth birthday.” He leaned against the doorjamb, one arm stretched above his head.
I shook my head. “He hasn’t reached the age of accountability yet.”
Xavier sucked in a breath. “You’re sure?”
“Pretty sure.” I said, rolling the hem of my T-shirt around my finger.
“Damn.”
That one word scared me. It told me everything my father said was true. Not that I didn’t believe him—I’d just hoped he was wrong.
“Benjamin is in trouble, isn’t he? He’s vulnerable to Azazel and his demons.”

“Yes.”

Excerpt from Wind River Refuge by J.M. Anton:

She scanned the immediate area again. “Well, there isn’t anyone around here that even resembles a McBride.” Dexter, and the rest of the male clan she was acquainted with, all had auburn or darker brown hair with a red cast. “What does he look like?”
“He’s very tall.”
“Come on Maggie, a little help here? You know that half the world looks tall to me.” Her disgusted observation brought a chuckle from the other end of the line.
“Oh… say, six foot four, broad shoulders, black hair and beard. Probably wearing jeans and a Stetson.” Jax was busy scanning the crowd while she listened to Maggie’s description of her assigned pilot.
“Wait a minute.” Phone receiver placed safely on the counter, she cautiously made her way around a column near the baggage claim carousel. All of the McBride men were big, but this one was even larger than the rest! She prayed, “Please, let him be someone else.” She sucked oxygen into her lungs, like a swimmer preparing for a deep dive, let it out slowly and skirted around the far side of the large column near where he stood. Jax mastered her trepidation and approached slowly, once she finished assessing the, dark, stranger from a safe distance. It was a supreme effort to sound calm and confident. “McBride?”
He looked down at her from his towering height. “You Jax?”
All she could manage was to nod her head. He was easily a foot taller than her, and had to weigh twice as much. She quickly executed a sharp one-eighty and fought the urge to run back to the phone. Her mouth suddenly felt dry and gritty! The usually simple reflex of breathing became a struggle. God! He was intimidating. At least Dexter was a known quantity, and his six foot two athletic frame didn’t bother her anymore. Fingers trembling, she fumbled with the receiver on the counter. Jax informed Maggie she’d found Garrett. Of course, Maggie wanted to speak with him. She turned around with the intention to call him over to the phone, and nearly jumped out of her skin. He stood right behind her, and she ran smack into his large muscular form.
“Shit!”
“Nice language,” he told her with obvious disapproval.
“You scared the hell out of me! I didn’t realize you were there.” He looked at her as if she were simple minded. Jax shoved the phone at him, and then all but ran to claim her luggage.

Excerpt from The End is Now by Connor Titus:

When deception and lies ascended to paradise, all silver-tongued and golden haired, Emerson was already dead, Jerrod was on earth, Jason was on patrol, and William, the youngest of the Celestials, was on duty.
Rythy was chained to her cell with irons of fire; the bars of her chamber had been fortified with the blessings from God himself and her wings had been clipped. She was fed, but only given enough to eat to sustain life ... not strengthen it.
Regardless, William was terrified of her.
And more so of late as she no longer yanked her chains while hurling protest and insults. Instead, she sat, like a cat with her tail wrapped around her feet.
He liked it better when she acted like a caged animal.
William hadn’t seen Emerson or Jerrod for days, but was just as relieved when he looked up from the logbook and saw Dianna.
Looking into her golden face was like being roused from some terrible dream. “Boy, I am sure glad to see you; did you come to audit the log?”
He turned the book so that she could see it. There was only one problem, the officer he was speaking to was not Dianna.
“Oh, William, I almost forgot,” Dianna started as she rounded the corner and came face to face with her...self.
Rythy started laughing, and with impeachable timing and flawless execution, all hell broke loose in heaven.
